Counselling

Counselling does not have to be something you are ashamed of, but rather what you are proud of because you want to lead a happy and holistic life. Our counselling services are geared to providing supportive feedback to help you gain greater insight and understanding. The therapeutic alliance is the most important part of any counselling relationship. The likelihood of change increases when the client feels they can fully trust their counsellor, and that someone else understands them. As such, counsellors at the Olive Branch aim to create strong alliances with their clients.

Through counselling, you can understand emotional crises and how to better cope with them. The benefits of counselling include a greater degree of self-awareness and understanding of yourself and others. This improves self-esteem as well as mental and physical health.

Whatever your reason for seeking help, you will be more at ease and get better results if you know what to expect. In your first session, the counsellor typically will ask certain questions about you and your life. This information helps him or her make an initial assessment of your situation. Questions asked may include:

·         Why you sought counselling

·         Your personal history and current situation

·         Your current symptoms

During the counselling sessions, be prepared to:

·         Be open

·         Ask questions

·         Be honest about your feelings
